Members of nascent nongovernmental organisation, the Royal Heritage Association International, RHAI, have offered vital support to some selected Internally Displaced Persons, IDP children who fled the armed conflict in the restive North West Region of the country.
The important donation including school needs, was handed to the beneficiaries during a ceremony held recently in Yaounde.
The children who received the assistance were all smiles as they expressed gratitude to the benefactors, a group of Cameroonians resident abroad.
The Royal Heritage Association International, RHAI, it should be said caters for less privileged girls especially girls from crises zones.
The President of the association, Claudius Anyangwe Fombang, who spoke during the donation exercise, said the initiative is still in its commencement phase.
Fombang added that the association plans to re-empower the girls from the said troubled areas by giving them the opportunity to pick up their pieces and pursue their education and dreams while they can.
The Royal Heritage Association International was midwifed in 2023 in Yaounde. It has partners abroad who are mostly Cameroonians from the English-speaking regions of the country.
The recent donation, according to Claudius Anyangwe Fombang was driven by love for the country and compassion for young girls who have been subjected to suffering and forceful displacement from their places of origin.
As stated by Fombang, the donation was “prompted by the fundamental human right to education for every child as enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and in response to UNESCO’s call to support the access to education for marginalised girls as stipulated in the UNESCO Convention against Discrimination in Education, we cannot remain indifferent to the suffering of the children from the conflict zones. We are further encouraged by Cameroon government’s frequent calls for every Cameroonian to feel at home in any part of the country. We have been reaching out to IDP families in Yaoundé to support them in our own little way and so far, our moves have been very successful and appreciated”.
It was not the first time the Association was reaching out to persons in need. The association has previously offered books, pens and pencils and financial support to some five IDP families in the Simbock area of Yaounde.
The exercise went on for one week ahead of back-to-school and ended on Sunday, September 8, 2024 with a thanksgiving at the Presbyterian Church Simbock.
According to the president of the association, RHAI has a great vision for the underprivileged girl and their activities will continue during the end-of-year festivities with mission trips to homes, the streets and facilities where the said class of girls can be found and given a helping hand.
